Barwick: Millennium Gala

Barwicker No. 59
September 2000

Original Picture awaited to achieve a better illustration

On the 22nd. July, 2000, Barwick-in-Elmet held a gala as part of its Millennium celebrations. The activities started at 11.00 am with a Millennium family service at All Saints Parish Church.

Due to inclement weather conditions, the sports activities had to be postponed for two weeks. All the other items, however, were held in Barwick Village Hall when the gala was officially opened by a jester at 2.00 pm, with the parish church bells being rung by the village bell ringers.

The Village Hall became the focal point as most of the village organisations took part in the event with displays and entertainment. The Historical Society display, depicting our varied activities, attracted a large degree of interest and we sold a good number of our publications. We hope that several visitors to the display were inspired by our activities enough to want to join the Society.

The whole gala, including the outdoor events, attracted a large number of people both young and old, most of whom voted the gala a great success.
