THE QUEEN'S SPEECH

Mr Chairman, Lord and Lady Mayoress, Ladies, Gentlemen, Boys and Girls:

Firstly I would like to thank the Lady Mayoress for performing the crowning ceremony and I would like to welcome you all to our triennial Maypole festivities for 1993. Today is a very special day for me and one which I shall remember all my life. I think we are very privileged to have this tradition in our village and that we as children can play such an important part in the celebrations.

I know how much time and hard work has to take place to stage such an event and to ensure this tradition continues. I am sure you would all like to join with me in thanking the Maypole Committee for making this day possible.

My thanks also go to the children who voted for me to be the Maypole Queen for 1993, to all the school children taking part today, to my Maid of Honour Ann Darley, Crownbearer Daniel Wroe, Equerries Matthew Whyte and Steven McGarry and to the Trainbearers Emma Broniowski and Matthew Birch, and also to the Headmaster and staff at Barwick School for all their hard work and support.

I would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Atkinson and Mr Metcalf for my beautifully decorated coach. Finally I would like to thank all for being here today and making this such a memorable occasion.

Thank You.

Joanna Nichols
