EXTRACT FROK KELLY'S DIRECTORY OF 1893

from The Barwicker No. 12 December 1988

We have recently seen the opening of an additional shop in the Village, when for some years our shopping facilities have remained fairly static. In the years before the development of public transport, Barwickers were much more self-sufficient, although I suspect there was the occasional shopping spree to the city on the horse-bus. These thoughts were brought to the fore because I came across the attached list in Kelly's Directory of 1893, which illustrates our local amenities almost a century ago.
